Ripped from the Headlines

The wine and spirits business gets into the news on occasion. ICYMI, here are some recent events on our world.

In the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, a thief stole the whole truck, containing 11 kegs and three 24-can packs of Heineken, along with three cases of Georgi Vodka. Read the story here.

In France, police arrested 20 people in the theft of over €1 million worth of prestigious grands crus wines from Bordeaux vineyards. Thefts happened about every 15 days over a 6 month period. Read more here.

Girl Scout cookies paired with beer? These folks think so.

If you had just over $13.6 billion in cash, you might have out-bid Suntory (Osaka, Japan) for the Beam, Inc. portfolio. Other Beam brands include Maker's Mark, Basil Hayden and Knob Creek. The full story is here.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie partnered with noted French winemaking family Perrin to create a surprise hit Rose wine last year, under the name Chareau Miraval. We carried the wine until it sold out, and it even rated a spot (#84) in the 2013 Wine Spectator Top 100. They're extending their partnership to produce a "Super Provence" wine, to be stylistically similar to a Super Tuscan.  Read about that here.
