Cucumber Sparkler

Cucumber Sparkler

-1 tablespoon cubed, seeded cucumber
-1/2 oz fresh lime juice (about half a lime)
-1/2 oz simple syrup
-1 dash of mint bitters
-1 1/2 oz Devotion vodka
-3 oz sparkling wine

Muddle the cucumber and lime juice. Add simple syrup, bitters and vodka with a bit of ice and shake to chill. Strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with a slice of cucumber.

Ballast Point Barmy
Our Barmy is a strong golden ale that lives up to its name…in a way. Some know “barmy” as slang for crazy or wacky. Flying Dog Peach Saison

Thompson: "Too weird to live, too rare to die."  Sweet, yet tart, peach meets peppery saison spice in this delicate beer. Bring out the distinct yeast with a fresh chèvre or add sweetness to earthy oysters on the half shell.

Nebraska Brewing Brunette Brown Ale
Our version of the classic English-style Brown Ale has a blend of six different malts and a hop schedule that results in a low hop character.  The unique malt character brings to mind the taste of a blend of various nuts. Coffee, toffee, caramel tend to come to mind in this excellent session Ale.

Schlafly Pumpkin Ale
Our Pumpkin Ale blends the spices of the harvest with full-bodied sweetness for a beer that tastes like pumpkin pie. Pounds of pumpkin form a malty foundation that supports the fall flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.  While pumpkin beers were produced in the early days of the American colonies, they were different from the pumpkin beers we know today.  Colonists used pumpkin and squash as the fermenting medium, since malted barley was scarce.  Once malt became more readily available, it replaced these alternatives to grain.  In the 1990’s, American craft brewers reintroduced the style to the delight of pumpkin beer drinkers.

Schlafly Oktoberfest
Our Oktoberfest is a traditional Bavarian Märzen with a toasty malt aroma and slight caramel taste.  This rich, amber lager is balanced by the use of German noble hops, while the lager yeast ferments cold and slow, creating a smooth, crisp beer.

Two Roads Roadsmary's Baby Pumpkin
Roadsmary’s Baby is a traditional pumpkin ale with a Two Roads spin, it's aged in rum barrels for added complexity and depth of flavor. The result is a smooth drinking ale with notes of pumpkin, spices, vanilla, oak and a touch of rum.

Two Roads Ok2berfest
Modeled after the classic “Marzenbier," Oktoberfest style that was traditionally the beer served at the Munich Oktoberfest. It possesses a smooth, toasty malt profile with a crisp character of traditional German hops.    

Pokemon Hunting with Store Manager David Rudd

Once again this past Friday, our friends at nj.com visited us at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge for a Live Facebook post for another installment of Drinks on Us featuring our Store Manager David Rudd.  This time he's grabbed onto the Pokémon Go craze and pulled a drink out of his mixologist mind called the Pikachu. This energizing cocktail will pep you up after a long workday. 

The Pikachu
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 1/2 oz peach schnapps
- 3 oz orange juice
- 1 1/2 oz Red Bull
- 1 oz grenadine
- 2 cherries

Combine the vodka, peach schnapps and orange juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill. Strain into an iced highball, add grenadine and top with Red Bull. Garnish with two cherries and drink with a straw.
To "virgin-ize" it for the pint-sized Pokémon masters in your home, just remove the alcohol and Red Bull and add a splash of apple juice.

As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with.  Punkin Ale is named after the seriously off-centered southern Delaware extravaganza Punkin Chunkin. In fact, Punkin Ale made its debut as it claimed first prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Contest. Yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business!  Punkin Chunkin has grown in size and scale, with pumpkins now being hurled more than 4,000 feet through the air! Brooklyn Post Road Pumpkin AleEarly American colonists, seeking natural ingredients for brewing ales, turned to pumpkins, which were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious. Blended with barley malt, pumpkins became a commonly used beer ingredient. Post Road Pumpkin Ale brings back this tasty tradition. Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish. 5% ABV

Bacardi Citrus Punch

 

1 part Bacardi Grapefruit

1part Bacardi Limon

2 parts orange juice

1 part grapefruit juice

2 lime wedges

Pour all ingredients into a serving glass filled with ice. Squeeze lime wedges into drink. Stir with a bar spoon and garnish with an orange slice.

 

Pineapple Chi Chi

 

1 oz New Amsterdam Pineapple Vodka

1/2 oz Coconut Rum
3/4 oz Lime juice

4 oz pineapple juice

 

Shake all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker.  Strain into a highball glass full of ice and garnish with a pineapple wedge and a sprig of mint.

Drink on Us - Bourbon Smash

Our latest installment of Drinks on Us, featuring Woodbridge Store Manager David Rudd and out friends from nj.com features a sweet bourbon cocktail called the Bourbon Smash

Bourbon Smash
-1 oz simple syrup
-4 basil leaves
-1/2 lemon
-2 oz bourbon
-3 ripe strawberries
Muddle lemon, basil, strawberries and simple syrup. Fill shaker with ice and add bourbon, stir to chill.  Fill glass with crushed ice, and strain cocktail into glass. Garnish with basil leaf and strawberry.

You can use your favorite bourbon, but we recommend a bourbon new to our product line called Groveland.  A recent addition to our product line and available at a fantastic price of $18.97 in both stores, we know you'll love it, so give it a try!

Pumpkin Invasion

Believe it or not, the fall seasonal beers are starting to trickle into our stores!  We may have another month or two left of summer, but the pumpkin patch is ripe for the picking!  Stop in and pick some up to take a break from the IPAs!  Here are just a few that have come in recently.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin
We set out to make a bold monument for The King of the Pumpkins! This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is the mother of all pumpkin ales. It is heartier, spicier and more “caramelly” and “pumpkiny” than its faint brethren! We have added lots of pumpkin along with cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of cardamom and clove, giving this beer a spicy, full-bodied flavor. This truly is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream.

Ballast Point Dead Ringer Oktoberfest
A fresh take on a traditional festival beer.  Our Dead Ringer Oktoberfest lager is inspired by old-style Märzen brews customarily enjoyed during Bavaria’s world-famous beer festival. Thanks to an abundance of toasted malt and a lower hop bitterness, this dark reddish brown lager is loaded with sweet, caramel toffee flavors and aromas. All the taste and celebration of Oktoberfest packed into one bottle; no lederhosen required. 6% ABV

Ballast Point Pumpkin Down
A pumpkin ale that bucks the trend.  Some might think we’re out of our gourd for making a pumpkin ale, but our Pumpkin Down is not like the others.  The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree. 5.8% ABV

Southern Tier PumkingAll Hallow's Eve is a time of the year when spirits can make contact with the physical world, and when magic is most potent.  It is thought that we harness this magic to brew our powerful pumpkin ale.  Not so, but it is with great respect to the magic of their trade that our brewers produce this fine beer.  Take a whiff of this complex ale and your journey has just begun.  At first sip, a magical spell will bewitch your taste buds, yet another victim enraptured by the Pumking.  8.6% ABV

Mixology Monday -- New York Sour

Every Friday this summer, our friends at NJ.com have stopped by our Woodbridge store to feature our store manager and resident mixologist David Rudd in a segment called "Drinks on Us".  This past Friday, a Joe Canal's exclusive bourbon played center stage in a drink recipe called the New York Sour.

2 oz. Groveland Bourbon
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
1/2 oz. fruity red wine

Combine bourbon, lemon juice and simple syrup in an iced cocktail shaker and shake to chill. Strain into a double old fashioned filled with ice. Pour wine over the back of a spoon to float on top.

Groveland Bourbon is available at both Woodbridge and Lawrenceville for the Bottle Club® Price of $18.97.  It's a smooth, sophisticated, and bold bourbon. This Bourbon has traditional oak aromas along with sweet vanilla and caramel. It has soft, subtle fruit notes with a subtly sweet finish.
