Your Daily Bordeaux

For some oenophiles, only a Bordeaux will do. For the rest of us, a Bordeaux can be a somewhat mysterious wine. After all, French wine doesn't usually have a varietal breakdown on the label. Statistics show that well over 90% of all wines purchased in the US are opened and enjoyed within a few days of purchase, so it would seem that the best of all worlds would have a desirable, non-mysterious and easy-drinking Bordeaux priced so that it can be enjoyed  any day of the week. May we suggest Les Charmes de Magnol Médoc 2011?

Les Charmes de Magnol is a special selection made by the Barton & Guestier winemaking team in the prestigious Médoc appellation. The Medoc parcels offer the perfect soil to the two famous Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is vinified with strict controls for quality. After the alcoholic fermentation in vats at high temperature (30-32°C) with daily pumping over and three weeks maceration, the malolactic fermentation takes place in vats. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 6 months.

Tasting notes: Deep purple red color. Intense and complex on the nose, developing ripe fruits, plums and spicy notes. With air, flattering tobacco and coffee hints appear. On the palate, the wine offers a velvety tannic structure with very ripe fruit aromas. The finish is long and elegant. This will pair nicely with wild mushroom risotto, pasta dishes, grilled duck, or strong cheese.

Priced at only $11.96 in the Bottle Club®, we think Les Charmes de Magnol is an all-around winner of a wine.
