Mid-Week Shelf Fillers

With Customer Appreciation Weekend coming up soon, our buyers made sure that our shelves had more new products for your shopping pleasure. Here's a look at a few of the most recent arrivals.

Highland Park Dark Origins

Dark Origins is inspired by the cunning spirit and courageous personality of Highland Park’s infamous founder, Magnus Eunson. This latest addition to the core expressions uses twice as many first fill sherry casks than in the classic Highland Park 12 year old, resulting in a naturally darker, richer flavor.

The nose is sherried spice and ripe bananas, combine. with toasted hazelnuts and baked apple. On the palate, it's well-balanced; dry peat at first, mellowing out to maraschino cherries, warm dark chocolate entices the palate. The finish is enduring sweet smoke.

Available in limited quantities at $77.99.

Taylor Fladgate 1863 Single Harvest Tawny Port

From the last great Port harvest before the spread of Phylloxera throughout the Douro Valley, we present the Taylor Fladgate 1863 Single Harvest Tawny.

The 1863 color is that of a deep mahogany core with a narrow amber-olive rim. On the nose, a succession of subtle spicy aromas opens up against a dense backdrop of treacle and molasses. Notes of sawn oak and vanilla give way to a spicy surge of nutmeg, black pepper and ginger. Gradually the rich, sumptuous aromas of age emerge: walnut, marzipan, butterscotch and mocha followed by rich figgy plumpudding notes. On the palate, the wine is in perfect balance, with sweetness and acidity in perfect harmony and beautifully integrated spirit. On the mid-palate the wine releases a burst of opulent mellow flavor which is lifted by a crisp acidity as it flows into the endless finish. This is a wine of extraordinary depth and background which continues to astonish with multiple layers and dimensions of aroma.

This Single Harvest Porto is a once-in-a-lifetime Porto that should be savored after a meal, alone or with nuts. We currently have three bottles available, in Woodbridge only. It's bottled in a specially-made crystal decanter, and presented in a superb wooden box with a maple burl. $3199.99 in the Bottle Club®.

Tippy Cow Rum Cream

There isn't anything we could do to transition smoothly from that last wine, so we'll just move on to a "fun" product.

Tippy Cow will remind you of tastes you have been enjoying your whole life. Proudly made by Wisconsin cows, Tippy Cow uses only the highest quality ingredients to ensure a perfect flavor experience. Let the Chocolate take you back to your local ice cream shop for a chocolate malt; enjoy Orange Cream and think about frozen orange desserts you ate every summer. Savor Shamrock Mint and remember your favorite Saint Patrick's Day shake, or delight in Vanilla Soft Serve and wish you could eat the cone. Enjoy these classic tastes on the rocks, straight up, or as a base for a variety of cocktails, but be prepared to share as Tippy Cow always draws a crowd!

The Myth of Cow Tipping

Many a city dweller has heard the myth of cow tipping, but the truth of the matter is you would have a better chance trying to tip a small car. Tippy Cow's cows are big, strong, healthy animals who can easily weigh 1400 pounds, and they’re also the loving creatures who provide the base for Tippy Cow’s brilliant flavors. Let them sleep in peace so they can be up early, producing the sweet dairy cream that Tippy Cow needs. Tip a glass— not a cow!

Rum Cream drinks are a hot category right now, and Tippy Cow is available for only $18.49.

Cheval Noir Saint Emilion

We've missed this wine, as it returns for the 2011 vintage.

For over 60 years Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion has been the historic cornerstone and the jewel of Mähler-Besse wines.

It is made from meticulously selected grapes (70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc) chosen for their quality and their trueness to the Saint-Émilion type. This delicate, elegant wine is remarkable for its silky tannins and its berry fruit and cinnamon notes.

An outstanding value, at only $14.99 in the Bottle Club®.
