Something for Everyone

Every Wednesday, we like to offer you reviews of some of our latest products, and today will be no exception. We carry a pretty wide range of wines, beers and spirits, and this week will emphasize that diverse portfolio. This week will also illustrate both value products and more luxurious items.

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, brown sugar and spices. As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with.

Punkin Ale is named after the seriously off-centered southern Delaware extravaganza Punkin Chunkin (check out Discovery Channel videos of Punkin Chunkin; you gotta see it to believe it!). In fact, Punkin Ale made its debut as it claimed first prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Contest. Yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business!

This is one of our ultimate seasonally-brewed, limited availability items. Don't miss out!

1818 Classic Wines, 1.5L

These are excellent table wines, and we've been selling them in the 750ml size for some time. We've just added the 1.5L magnum size, making a great value even better. Look for the 181 Classic Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, at only $9.96 in the Bottle Club®.

Joseph Phelps Insignia 2012

Our first shipment of the new Insignia release should arrive in the next day or two. Like every vintage of Insignia, this will sell out. To reserve yours, reach out to your favorite Wine Manager or Supervisor. Please note that while most of this shipment has been pre-sold, some bottles will be available. We are scheduled to receive an additional shipment later this month.

The 2012 Insignia has an inky dark hue and aromas of ripe blackberries, star anise, cigar box, clove and sweet mocha notes. Richly opulent with velvety texture and supple tannins, this full-bodied offering envelops the palate in luscious, lingering black plum and violets along with layers of baking spices.

96-100 points from Wine Advocate: "Joseph Phelps’ flagship wines include the incredibly ageworthy Insignia. The 2012 Insignia Proprietary Red is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc, all aged 24 months in 100% new French oak. The vintage was of such high quality and quantity that 17,500 cases were produced. A magnificent Insignia that will be bottled in several months, it boasts an opaque purple color as well as fabulous notes of graphite, blackberries, blackcurrant liqueur, camphor, barbecue smoke and spice box. Rich, full-bodied and opulent with plenty of tannin and structure lurking beneath the extravagant generosity of fruit, this stunning 2012 should drink well for 25-30+ years."

93 points from Wine Spectator: "Packs a wallop, perhaps overly so, with extracted dark berry flavors and tannic muscle. The drying sensation on the finish distracts from the ripe blackberry, earth, cedar and gravel notes. Aromas of cassis, currant and blackberry offer more promise. Either way, this is built to cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2017 through 2030."

Available for $189.99 in the Bottle Club®.

Anchor Brewing Argonaut Collection
Flying Cloud San Francisco Stout

Not every beer arriving now involves pumpkin or Oktober. Argonauts were the legendary heroes who sailed with Jason on the Argo in quest of the Golden Fleece. During the California Gold Rush, this ancient word was re-imagined to include those hardy pioneers who journeyed westward by ship or prairie schooner in search of adventure, fortune, and a new life.

Named after a San Francisco sailing legend from a time when stouts were first exported to the West Coast. Our stout is a dry, Irish-style export stout akin to those brewed in the 1800s for the long voyage to San Francisco. Black as night, this high-gravity, malty brew offers intense but well-balanced flavors and aroma, with hints of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. 7.4% ABV.
