One of the frequent requests that the Joe Canal's staff hears goes something like this: "I'm looking for a different white wine. What do you have?" Just in time for your holiday entertaining, Joe Canal's is introducing that something different: the 2012 Lustig Gruner Veltliner.

Now we understand that a Gruner Veltliner might not have even been on your radar screen. That would be a mistake. This Austrian white is very approachable, and, coming in a 1 liter bottle, is made for sharing.

Lustig has great balance between fruit and acidity, and notes of citrus and green apple are featured in this crisp, minerally, easy-drinking white wine. Although terrific on its own, it will pair especially well with oysters, sushi, salads, asparagus, spicy foods and fried foods. In German, Lustig means “funny, merry, happy, jaunty.” With an easy-to-pop crown-cap closure and a full liter of wine in each bottle, this is a great wine to drink with friends at parties, the beach, the pool or wherever you may be in that search to be lustig!

The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks, making it very fruit-driven. The grapes are grown in a sustainable fashion, and no herbicides are used. Wine Enthusiast had this to say: "A fresh, fruity wine, full of crisp apples with a touch of pear. It’s in the bright, light style of the one liter bottles from Austria, a great party wine."
