Welcome Back

Thank you for stopping by the Craft Beer Corner. Every Tuesday, we review some of the newest craft beer deliveries to Joe Canal's in Lawrenceville and Woodbridge. Let's get started.

Allagash Hive 56. Hive 56 is a dark sour ale aged with honey in an oak foudre for eighteen months. The beer is deep mahogany in color with aromas of strawberries, lemon, and tropical fruit; notes of dark chocolate, raspberries, and figs present themselves upon the first sip, followed by a lingering tartness.

We brew this beer with a blend of dark Munich malt, chocolate wheat, midnight wheat, and roasted barley, and hop with Cascade and Northern Brewer. Hive 56 undergoes initial fermentation with our house yeast; we then transfer the beer to a foudre with Brettanomyces bruxellensis and fresh honey from our Allagash beehives. Over the course of the next 18 months, the Brettanomyces transforms the honey, resulting in a beer with bold, roasty flavors, and a hint of tropical fruit. 7.7% ABV.

In 375ML bottles. Extremely limited availability. Please consult with our beer team to see whether
we can accommodate your request.

Yards Cape of Good Hope. Though the recipe changes year to year, this West-Coast style double IPA always embodies the adventurous spirit of the original India Pale Ales – and each year’s release promises to take you on an epic journey. This year's batch bursts with notes of citrus, melon and pine from Ella, Azacca, Galaxy, Mosaic, Citra, Chinook, Citra and whole flower Cascade hops. Cape of Good Hope is a limited-release beer. 9.7% ABV, 75 IBU.

Pairings: Think of Cape of Good hope as the main course. For a side dish, how about a cranberry walnut salad with lemon vinaigrette? Have another Cape for dessert.

Two Roads Brewing Honeyspot Road IPA. The Two Roads version of this traditional beer style takes a road less traveled. It’s unfiltered and uses wheat as the dominant malt backbone. The result is a slightly cloudy, pale IPA with a softer mouthfeel that accentuates the citrusy Pacific Northwest hop character. 6% ABV. Currently available only in Lawrenceville.

Shiner Light Blonde. Before the recent craziness over New Belgium brewing's arrival in New Jersey, Shiner was the beer we were anticipating the most. Shiner Light Blonde is light done right. Don't ask how they packed so much flavor into just 99 calories-they're not telling. 4.2% ABV. Currently available only in Woodbridge, 12oz 12-pack, cans.

Westbrook Brewing IPA. A base of pale, Munich, and Carapils malts is just enough to contain the massive hop flavor and aroma packed into this highly drinkable IPA. A blend of four American hop varieties is added four times in the kettle and twice in the fermentor for a complex and layered hop experience. Best served at 45-50˚F in a tulip or English style pint glass. 6.8% ABV, 65 IBU.

B.O.M. (Belgian Original Maltbakery) Brewery Triporteur Wild and Funky. The Wild & Funky is our response to the challenge to brew a new style of sour beer with mixed fermentation. Taste-wise, the beer fits perfectly within the Belgian tradition, but the brewing method is different than usual. 5.5% ABV.

Serve as an appetizer. The acidity of the beer guarantees a good aging potential. Pair with toast with apple and pear sirop (look for it when you are in Belgium); the beer fits with shrimp. Limited availability, only in Lawrenceville.
