A Peek in the Back Room

The receiving docks at our two Joe Canal's stores can be dangerous places. Trucks, forklifts, palates full of product, handtrucks and people move about at scary speeds. Some days, the trucks are lined up around the building. For that, we sincerely thank you, because those bottles and cans are going out the front door just as fast as they're coming in.

Here, then, is a look at what's just arrived, or what we expect to receive within the next few days.

 Isle of Jura Brooklyn

"Despite our love for it, scotch whisky’s reputation has been marred by a sense of snobbery, exclusivity, and even boredom. We always believed that could be changed and that all the ancient scotch-making rules could (and should) be broken. Enter Jura Brooklyn. Created in collaboration with some of Kings County’s most visionary and influential establishments, our limited edition blend is an ode to the spirit of rebellion and the remarkable synergy between Jura and New York’s most infamous borough."

"Everyone knows you aren't allowed to make scotch whisky outside of Scotland, which is all well and good—if you care to follow rules (which we don't). So we picked a similarly convention-defying island, a little place called Brooklyn, and sent our rogue of a master distiller Mr. Willie Tait there with one goal: to create a world-class single malt scotch whisky made by and for the people of Kings County. He left with six cask samples and returned with an inspired blend hand-selected by some of the borough's most revered inhabitants and establishments."

"Aged in American White Oak Bourbon, Amoroso Sherry, & Pinot Noir casks, our newest marriage boasts flavors of smoke, roasted coffee beans, lush berries, and honey." This is an allocated whisky, available for $52.99.

Rock Hill Farms Bourbon

100 Proof "Rye Recipe" Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Single Barrel Bourbon, called “The World’s Greatest Bourbon” by Washingtonian Magazine.

"The nose presents hints of plums, candy and papaya and the medium body bears a simple palate with a touch of fruit, tobacco and a pleasant minty backdrop." Gary and Mardee Regan in The Bourbon Companion. From the Buffalo Trace family of brands. Available for $44.99, in very limited quantities.

Le Galet Côtes du Rhône

Galets are the large, conglomerate rocks (also called puddingstones) found in the Rhône valley which help store heat and provide excellent drainage. Le Galet Côtes-du-Rhône is a traditional Syrah-Grenache blend, providing an accessible, early drinking style without being overly tannic.

On the nose, there is an abundance of black and red fruit, particularly blackberry and loganberry, with plenty of warm spice. The palate follows the same theme, with the soft and supple tannins blending nicely with the warm spice to produce a mouth-filling richness . The flavor is similar to the nose, with plenty of red and black berry fruit combining beautifully. This wine certainly delivers a lot at this price.

Enjoy with canapés or as a match for a range of red meat dishes. Only $9.96 in the Bottle Club®. Available now in Lawrenceville, and coming soon to Woodbridge.
